At University Academy Holbeach we recognise that the role of a school is greater than just the academic education of our pupils. As our aims and objectives state, we aim to develop well-adjusted, balanced individuals, who respect themselves and others. UAH recognises that SMSC plays a crucial role in the development of the young people who attend our school and we aim to support them as they take their place in the community as local, national and global citizens. We actively promote positive, inclusive values. These include the Fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect for and tolerance of those of different faith and beliefs. We believe these values are those expected of anyone living in Britain, regardless of their nationality, culture or religious belief. We place emphasis on building positive relationships in school and we believe our values should be embedded into school life, in everything that we do.
The curriculum at UAH promotes pupils’ Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural development and opportunities for reflection are provided through assemblies, the school’s curriculum, tutor time and off-site visits to places of religious, spiritual and cultural significance. We also aim to provide opportunities for pupils to experience awe and wonder and our objective is for pupils to be engaged and excited by their learning. Opportunities are taken to explore ethical issues and identify different frameworks for making moral decisions. There are many ways in which the student voice is referred to and this is a key part of the pupils’ social development.
Our Tutor Time programme supports and promotes our curriculum for Personal Development and we also have a calendar of the different activities which are planned every year. Every week is given a Theme of the Week and activities and assemblies are based on this.
