What is the 16-19 tuition fund?

The 16-19 tuition fund is one off funding for the 2020/21 academic year that is ring fenced for Sixth Form colleges to support students and mitigate disruption to learning arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding is being used to provide small group tuition for 16-19-year olds where their learning has been disrupted and they have a GCSE Maths and / or English grade of 4 or below. Although targeted students are identified based on their prior attainment in English and Maths, the funding can be used to support students in their learning across a variety of subjects.

Examples of disruption that these students have faced / will face include assessments being deferred due to lockdown or self-isolation, falling behind in their learning due to long / multiple periods of self-isolation and not being able to complete examinations/assessments due to positive COVID-19 cases.

How will University Academy Holbeach use the funding?

At University Academy Holbeach we intend to utilise the funding to provide additional support to small groups of students that have not yet achieved a grade 4/5 in Mathematics or English. Within this cohort targeted student intervention will be focused on as follows:

Students that have yet to achieve a grade 4 in English or Maths

Students that have yet to achieve their grade 5 in Maths and English who require it for their next step.

Priority for tuition will be afforded to the most disadvantaged students based on their socio-economic background, SEND status and volume of disruption to their learning through COVID-19.

What types of support will we provide? 

The types of support outlined below will be provided through 1-2-1 support or small group intervention:  

  • Maths and/or English – targeted intervention to support students to fill gaps in their knowledge, practise their skills and reinforce learning from the curriculum. 
  • Additional learning support - Learning Mentor staff will provide sessions to enable students to overcome barriers to learning. 
  • Pastoral support – specific pastoral support that addresses personal barriers to learning and equips students with strategies to better engage with their learning.  
  • Academic skill development – focused on the development and refreshing of study skills so that students can more effectively engage with the curriculum content.  
  • To purchase bespoke resources – for targeted students to support the tuition catch up

How will we record and monitor the use of this fund? 

Existing systems will be used to track the usage of the fund and the impact of the support on students. We will closely monitor the Tuition Fund cohort to determine the effectiveness of the support and modify it as required.  

We will notify the ESFA of any unspent funding from this fund for it to be reclaimed.
