T-Level Construction (BSE)

The T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction allows learners to gain an understanding of the BSE (Electrical, Gas and Plumbing) industry and the sector. This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16-19-years old who wish to work within the Building Services Engineering Industry. A learner who completes this qualification is well placed to develop to full occupational competence with the proper support and training. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work. 

Entry Requirements: 

At University Academy Holbeach we require you to ideally have (as a minimum) level 4 GCSE in English and Maths. However, if you don’t achieve your expected GCSE grades, we can put measures in place to help you gain the qualifications you require alongside your T Level course.  

Our Facilities: 

The Electrical, Gas and Plumbing workshop have industry standard facilities where students can gain skills from within the trade. Classrooms are equipped with the latest technology and resources that bring the experience within the wider BSE industry, into the classroom. 

In the later stages of the course, students will have the opportunity to work in our brand-new T Level Construction building, this is an on-site development which houses an impressive and extensive construction area. The new building is multi-functional: brickwork and joinery/carpentry students use the building to construct the shell of a domestic property and electrical and plumbing students practise their skills by the installation of gas pipework, water systems and electrical wiring.  

Uniform 

Students are expected to wear a grey T Level branded polo shirt, grey fleece and black workwear trousers as well as their distinctive purple T Level lanyard. 

The Course:  

All students will develop a general understanding of BSE during the first year, including: 

  • Fundamental Health and Safety practices associated with carrying out construction and BSE work 

  • Scientific principles related to construction activities 

  • The construction industry and careers within it 

  • Principles of sustainability and design, relevant to construction projects 

  • Information, data and principles of measurements 

  • Tools, equipment and materials used in BSE work 

  • Legislation, regulations and approved standards that apply to BSE systems. 

In addition to the core content, each student must choose one of the following specialisms studied during the second year: 

  • Electrotechnical engineering  

  • Gas engineering 

  • Plumbing and Heating engineering
