Early Years workforce

CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Children & Young People's Workforce & CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF)

These qualifications will prepare you to work with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the early years sector.

The courses are designed so that apprentices spend one day in college and four days each week working in a childcare setting. This is where your application of knowledge and skills will be assessed.

During these courses you will study a range of subjects including:

  • Supporting healthy lifestyles through the provision of food and exercise.

  • Safeguarding and protection of young children

  • Health and safety when with young children.

  • Understand the value of play in the early years

  • School readiness

  • Theories of play, learning and development

  • Professional development

  • Supporting children who are unwell

  • Developing children’s emergent literacy skills

  • Developing children’s emergent Mathematical skills

  • Legislation around inclusive practice

  • You will undertake two longitudinal studies of children in your care

Where Can It Take Me?

Many of our apprentices have secured employment in the Day Nursery Settings in which they did their training. Other careers that you may access could be a Children’s Nanny, a Registered Child Minder, a Creche Worker, overseas/Holiday Club Nursery nurse or a supporting position.

All Early Years practitioners are required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check to meet legal requirements

GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C.
