Childcare Levels 1, 2 & 3

These qualifications will prepare you to work with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of children’s services.

The courses are designed so that most learners will spend time in a childcare setting gaining practical experience. This is also where their application of knowledge and skills will be assessed.

All candidates will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to assess their suitability for the course.

During these courses you will study a range of subjects including:
  • Growth and development of young children, including nutrition.

  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.

  • Health and safety when with young children.

  • Understanding play for early learning.

  • School readiness

  • Theories of play, learning and development

  • Professional development

CACHE Level 1 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Caring for Children (QCF)

CACHE Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People (QCF)

These 2 courses are combined to ensure a 1 year full-time programme of study. They are designed to stimulate the learner’s understanding of the skills required to care for children.  They will support you in preparing for the “next steps” either in training or moving towards the world of work. Students will engage in a range of practical classroom based activities.

The course will also offer students a 2 week work experience placement in an early years setting.  

CACHE Level 2 Certification in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF)

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years.  Learners could also progress on to the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (EYE).  Students will undertake 250 placements hours in an early years setting.  All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods.  This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE.

CACHE Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator)(VRQ)

The diploma is a 2 year programme which enables learners to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years.  Upon achievement of the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education it is intended that learners will be able to access higher education or enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.  This programme includes both internal and external assessment.  Students will need to undertake 750 placement in an early years setting.  There is a maximum allocation of 420 UCAS points at A* for the Level 3 Diploma.

CACHE Level 2 Certification in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF)

  • 5 A*- E grades including Maths and English.

CACHE Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator)(VRQ)

  • 5 A*- C grades including Maths and English.​​​​​​​

Previous students have progressed onto early years apprenticeship programmes, gained employment in day nurseries and preschool settings.

We have former students studying Early Years Education, Paediatric Nursing and Social Work at University and some who have gone on to successfully complete a PGCE in Primary Education.
